Obituary
Thomas Edward Henderson, 79, finished his race on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at home. He was born to Howard and Elmira Henderson on October 21, 1937 in Yolyn, WV. He graduated from Matewan High School in 1956, joined the US Army, and married his high school sweetheart Mildred Belle “Sue” Holland. They enjoyed 51 years together before her passing. In 2008, he married Estelle Mooney with whom he enjoyed five years before she passed. After an illustrious 21 year career in the army, including a tour in Vietnam, he retired as a Master Sergeant and transitioned into a 19 year career with the US Postal Service. He was a member and served as a deacon at Trinity Free Will Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and also sang in the choir. He is survived by his two daughter; Tami Elmira (Jim) Mattern of Waynesboro, PA and Patricia Ann (Jason) Cleve of Huntington, WV; one son, Thomas Michael of Huntington, WV; five grandchildren, Denise Henderson, Crystal Snyder, Cara Fraver (Luke Deikus), Matthew (Ashlee) Cleve and Corey Cleve; six great grandchildren, Aaron Snyder, Morgan Williamson, Olivia Chambers, Silas Cleve, Jack Deikus, and a new addition arriving in June; one brother, James (Mary) Henderson a very special friend, Jean Stookey; and several nieces and nephews including a special nephew Vernon Hood. In addition to his parents and spouses, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Bill; two sisters, Virginia Bailey and Gladys Hood; two brother-in-law’s that he considered to be brothers in Harry Bailey and Wylie Hood; one son, Stephen Lee; and a grandson, Jordan Matthew Fraver. Services will be conducted at 11 am at Trinity Free Will Baptist on Monday, December 12, 2016. Burial will follow at Dock’s Creek Cemetery, Kenova, WV. Military graveside rites will be conducted by West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. The visitation will be conducted on Sunday from 5-7 pm at the Reger Funeral Home. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Huntington for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Huntington at P.O.
