Milton Frank Riedel
was born to Louis Charles Riedel and Edna Augusta Stegman Riedel in
Wheeling, West Virginia. He graduated from Wheeling High School and attended
West Virginia University where he majored in Animal Husbandry. Before his
last semester of college, he was drafted into the Air Force where he served
as a mechanic and co-pilot. After his service he moved back to Wheeling and
became a customer home builder.
The homes he built stand proudly as a testament to craftsmanship and
dedication to his trade. For over 60 years he worked as a leader in the
construction industry from Wheeling to Huntington West Virginia. He enjoyed
traveling extensively, spending time with his family. He had a fascination
with collecting everything from pocket knives, model tractors and skid steer
loaders. Milt will be remembered by those who knew and loved him as caring
husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, friend and avid Marshall
football fan. He was a long-time member of Spring Valley Presbyterian
Church. There will be a memorial service at the church at 2pm on Sunday,
June 19, conducted by Rev. Bonnie Boyce. He passed away peacefully on June
17, 2016 surrounded by his family. Milt was preceded in death by his first
wife, Jean Lee Hobbs Riedel, brothers Harold Riedel, Phillip Riedel, sister
Betty Lou Shafferman and step-daughter Gay Elizabeth Davis. He is survived
by his second wife of 41 years Oretha “Jo” Riedel, his children Judi Taylor,
JB Riedel (Debi), Jan Taylor (Kim) and Jon Riedel (Peggy) as well as his
step children Carol Matheny, Katherine Phillips (Danny), James Meredith
(Adrienne) and Tanga Dodson (Tom), 22 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren
and one great-great granddaughter. American Legion Post 93 of Kenova will
conduct military rites. Reger Funeral Home is assisting the family with
arrangements.
