Obituary
Virginia Gladola Martin Chinn, 96, of Huntington, WV found her victory in Jesus on March 13, 2018 at 1:38 a.m. and is now resting in the arms of her savior in heaven. Virginia was born in Huntington, WV on November 25, 1921 the daughter of Ernest Martin and Thelma Legrand Martin. She married the love of her life Walter J. Chinn on September 17, 1939. After Walter’s passing in 1976, Virginia never remarried. Instead, she devoted her time to her family and to her church. She was a homemaker who loved gardening, making rock candy, and weaving placemats on her loom. She also greatly enjoyed canning vegetables in the summer and making apple butter in the fall. However, none of those things compared to the joy she felt while hosting her many family members at her house “on the hill” for Thanksgiving. Our beloved matriarch was a devout Christian who loved reading her Bible and praying for each of her family members by name at bedtime. She was a faithful member of Living Waters Revival Center and also visited Catlettsburg Harvest Church of God with her family until her latter years when traveling outside of the home became too difficult for her. Virginia was an avid supporter of Billy Graham and Charles Stanley ministries. In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her siblings Helen Martin, Edna McCown, Bobby, Ernest, Verlin, Russell, and Charles Martin, her beloved son Mickel Chinn, her grandsons Mark Allen Slayton, Lennie Chinn, “Little Mike” Mickel Chinn, Jr. and her granddaughter Diane White. She is survived by her sister Barbara Martin, her children Joseph (Deborah) Chinn, Roger (Filine) Chinn, Louise (Samuel) Adkins, Beverly (Gary) Slayton, and Vertia Slayton. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and 22 great great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Marcella “Marcie” Herald for providing outstanding care and friendship to our beloved mother and grandmother for the past decade. In addition, they would like to thank The Hospice House of Huntington for extending care and support as she transitioned from earth to glory. The family would also like to welcome everyone to celebrate with them the life and legacy of their matriarch by joining them for her home going service on Thursday March 15, 2018 at 2:30 pm at Reger Funeral Chapel. Her grandson, Minister Todd Slayton, will be officiating with her great grandson Aaron Smith assisting. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 pm until service time on Thursday.
