Obituary
Morton Andrew “Morty” Pilcher, of Huntington, WV died peacefully on March 1, 2018 at the Wyngate at Rivers Edge in Proctorville, Ohio. He was born on August 21, 1930 in Huntington, WV and was a lifelong resident of the city. Morty was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Smith Pilcher and his Parents, Hiram Elmore Pilcher and Charlotte Barrows Pilcher. He is survived by his four children, Susan Dess Godwin and her husband Don of Parker, CO; Clair Ann D’Angelo and her husband Robert of Clemmons, NC; Hiram Andrew Pilcher of Asheville, North Carolina; and Mark Allen Pilcher and his wife Beth of Huntington, WV. Additional survivors include his sister, Greta Pilcher Ball of Barboursville WV; his grandchildren, Adam Godwin, Vincent D’Angelo, Danielle D’Angelo, Nicole D’Angelo, Hannah Pilcher Parrish, Summer Pilcher, Hattie Pilcher, Carey Elizabeth McClelland, Charles McClelland: two great-grandchildren, Jaxson Parrish and Reese Parrish; his brothers and sisters in law; Thomasine and Tom Crossan of Huntington, WV; Brenda and John McMillan of Richmond, VA; Dot and William Smith of Anchorage, AK; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Morty attended Augusta Military Academy in Fort Defiance Virginia and he was a graduate of Huntington High School and Marshall University. In 1952, he entered the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. Morty also served 10 years as a member of the Naval Reserve after the Korean War. Upon his return to Huntington after his Naval service, Morty joined his mother in the family business established by his father in 1915, H.E. Pilcher and Company. He was a Real Estate Appraiser for over 60 years in Huntington, WV. Morty was the President of the Huntington Board of Realtors in 1963, a member of the Huntington Elks Club, and a member of the American Legion. He was an avid collector of Auto License plates and a member of the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association. He and his wife enjoyed many trips during their lives all over the world. Morty touched the lives of people fortunate enough to know him with his humor, wit, kind spirit and positive outlook. He will always be lovingly remembered for his jokes, his kind heart, and a life well-lived. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2018 from 3-5pm at Reger Mortuary in Huntington, WV. A celebration of his life will follow at 5pm. Burial will be Monday, March 11, 2018, 11am at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar, WV.
