ObituaryJohn Francis Hanlon, 92, passed away on 1 March 2018 at St. Mary’s Medical surrounded by his family. John was born 1 July 1925 in Peoria IL to the late Herbert and Emma Hanlon. He was also proceeded in death by his wife of 69 years, Alberta Faye Hanlon as well as 7 brothers and sisters. He is survived by sons Mike (Pam) Hanlon of Proctorville OH, George (Debbie) Hanlon of Noblesville IN, James (Pam) Hanlon of Hardeeville SC, Chuck (Joella) Hanlon of Huntington, WV; daughters Bonita (Jeff) Hudnall of Lincoln City OR, Kathleen (Selby) Litton of Huntington WV, and Patricia (Odie) Estep of Willow Wood OH. 15 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren. John moved to WV in 1947 following his service in World War II as a Signalman in the United States Navy. He served for two years aboard the USS San Saba in the Pacific Theater and was actively involved in their annual reunions through 2007. He worked for 25 years in the automotive business with Rich Chevrolet as parts manager, C-K Chevrolet and Superior Cadillac and Oldsmobile as service manager. He ended his working career working as the Advertising Manager at the Wayne County News in 1984. John was a member of American Legion Post #93. He was also a member of the Sacred Heart Parrish where he was a past member of the Men’s Club as well as Troop Leader for the Boys Scouts of America, Troop 1. The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to all the staff at the St Mary’s Intermediate Care Unit especially Rhianna Smith and Natalie Sexton for their kindness, tenderness and wellbeing of John and his family and to all the staff at the Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center who had become his extended family. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Reger Funeral Home on Tuesday 6 March followed the by the praying of the Rosary. The Funeral Liturgy officiated by the Reverend Charles McGinnis will be on Wednesday 7 March at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by internment at 1 PM at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East, Greenup, KY.
