ObituaryHazel Ellen Thorton
Berry
Mrs. Hazel Ellen Thornton Berry, 82, of St. Albans, formerly of Lesage, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2018 and went home to be with her Lord. She fought the good fight. Even though her health was not good, she had a marvelous sense of humor and was always kind, thoughtful, patient, giving and loving. She graduated Valedictorian at Poca High School. She retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital with 28 years of service. She had been a member of Greenbottom Baptist Church. She was the sole caregiver of her husband, Denzil, for four years. Her last months she enjoyed having her granddaughter, Tabitha, and her great-grandson, Dakota, living with her. She was very well taken care of and given the opportunity to laugh every single day. She will be tremendously missed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Denzil Ray Berry, her parents, her in-laws, two sisters, and five brothers. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons and daughter: Larry and Virginia Berry of Lesage, Ron and Lois Berry of Milton, FL, Lynette and Richie Thompson of Hurricane, Dr. Duane and Christy Berry of St. Albans. Her grandchildren include Terry Berry, Tabitha Snyder, Sonya Breeding, Christine Miley, Jason Bays, Emily Williamson, Daina Berry, and Cassady Berry; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Lorene Craig, special nephews, Richard Thornton and Neil Craig, and her “Angel”, Penni Garrison. Her cat, Snowball, gave her seven years of love and enjoyment. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by Pastor Gordon Rutherford. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
