Edith Nida Porter, 97 of Salt Rock, WV, widow of Cline L. Porter passed away at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House on Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, WV, by Rev. David Cartwright and Pastor Jason Salmons. Burial will be in the Porter Family Cemetery at Salt Rock. She was born November 12, 1913 in West Hamlin, the daughter of James Monroe and Luraney Bias Nida. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanine Gayle Nichols, daughter-in-law Patricia Carol Thompson Porter, four sisters, Martha Smith, Susan Pullen, Audrey Johnson Adkins, Lovie Holton and four brothers, Marion Nida, Thurman Nida, Ellis Nida and Willie Nida. Survivors are four sons: Emil Porter and his wife Wanda of Ona, Richard Porter and his wife Patricia, Michael Porter and his wife Sandra, and Anthony Porter all of Salt Rock, a son-in-law Dr. Edward Nichols of New York, 14 grandchildren, Christy, Meredith, Mark, Kim, Michelle, Matthew, Stephen, Becky, Shawn, Julie, Wayne, Charles Cline, Brian, Kathy and 16 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Velma Porter of Hurricane, a host of nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. Our beloved Nina was the mother of many and the friend of all. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. She was a member of the Salt Rock United Methodist Church where she was active as a Sunday school teacher, a pianist and in the Friendship Group. Friends may call on Friday, February 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home. The family would like to thank two special care givers, Mrs. Ethel Frye and Mrs. Janice Crum.
