Arvid “Arb” Vickers, 91, of Huntington, WV, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington with the Rev. Larry Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park. He was born March 11, 1919 in Boone County, WV, a son of the late Thomas L. and Maude Ann Vickers. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Lula “Lou” (Nibert) Vickers; a son, Arvid Vickers, Jr. as well as several brothers and sisters through the years. Mr. Vickers was a veteran of the US Army, having served in World War II and retired from Conner Steel. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Tom) Rahn of Midway, GA; brother, Jack (Ann) Vickers of Huntington and daughter-in-law, Patricia Vickers of Huntington; grandchildren, David (Shannon) Lewis of Townsend, DE, Sherri (Shawn) McKinney of Fresno, CA, Joni Hill of Huntington, Ronald (Andrea) Vickers of Elkview, MD, Arvid “Al” (Beth) Vickers III of Huntington; six great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special niece, Vicki Lund-Jones of Huntington. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Cabell-Huntington Hospital and Hospice House of Huntington for their kindness, care and support. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Beard Mortuary. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington.
