Daisy Sacre

Daisy Sacre, 101, of Huntington, WV, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, in Chateau Grove Assisted Living, Barboursville, WV. She was born June 17, 1911 in Cabell County, WV the oldest and last living child of Jacob Harem and Rebecca (Kindrick) Mathes. Her husband, Emil “Dutch” Sacre; three sisters; Hazel Smith, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Aliff, “Rosa” Hill, and Sue Davis, two brothers, Collard “Buck” Mathis and Harem Mathes, four half brothers, Carrol and Garland Mathes and Jennings and Stewart Ross preceded her in death. Daisy and Dutch leave a son, Jacob “Jack” (Mary) Sacre, and a daughter Hazel (Kenneth) Bowen Kirschenmann, grandchildren Mark (Regina) Sacre, Matt (Amy) Sacre, Susan (Jay) Cox, Debbie (Steve) Annett, Clinton (Tamrya) Bowen Jr. C. Bradley (Christina) Bowen and Paul Bowen, great grandchildren, Mechelle Annett, Luke, Alec, Evan and Chad Bowen, Ethan, Logan, Nathan, Jacob “Jake” Sacre, Ian and Justin Fox, Caleb Cox and three great-great grandchildren. Daisy leaves a history of strength and hard work common for her generation. She worked at the Huntington Dress Factory, taught school for a short time, but much of her labor was spent establishing and running her working dairy farm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Bowen Ridge Church or the church of your choice. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 PM Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Jessie Lacy officiating. Burial will be in Crook Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3:00 PM Sunday at Chapman’s Mortuary.
