Obituary

Cecil Roma McComas
(November 22, 1926 - June 3, 2015)



Cecil Roma McComas, 88, of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Huntington, WV, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015, in Abbotswood Independent Living, Raleigh, NC. He was born November 22, 1926 in Huntington a son of the late Herbert and Louise Perry McComas. A sister, Joyce Spurlock, also preceded him in death. He was a 1944 graduate of Huntington East High School; enlisted in the Navy after turning 18 and served during World War II from 1944-1946; returned home as a telegraph operator with Chesapeake and Ohio and worked his way up to general manager of coal transportation for CSX. He graduated from Marshall University in 1953 after putting himself through college and earning his bachelor’s degree in accounting. He was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church; BPOE #313 in Huntington; and was a Mason for over 50 years. Survivors include: his wife, M. Willa Marcum McComas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie Martin and Tim Arnold of Columbus, OH and Sharon and John Bourgeois of Staunton, VA; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Guy and Barbara Martin of Lexington, KY and Randall McComas of Raleigh, NC; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Woodmere Memorial Park, Abbey of Remembrance, with Dr. Ricky Ray officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 1:45 pm Saturday at Chapman’s Mortuary, with the procession leaving the funeral home at 1:45.
