Walter Scott Moore , Jr.

Walter "SCOTT" MOORE JR., 87, of Huntington, was born Jan. 7, 1926, and went to his new home in Heaven on Jan. 25, 2013. He was the son of the late Walter S. and Beryl Y. Moore. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Carter Renshaw Moore; his brothers, Robert and Frederick; and his sister, Betty; along with his beloved daughter, Martha Perry. Surviving him is his wife of 54 years, Patricia; daughters, Anne Carson, Kathy Albert (Richard); son, Arch Keller (Lois). He also left grandchildren, Scott and Sadie Carson, Arch and Zachary Keller, Melissa Kagan, Susie Wilson (Matt); and great-grandchildren, Savanah Wilson, Alexander Kagan and Riley Keller. Scott was originally from Widen, Clay County, W.Va. He is a veteran having served in the navy in San Diego, Calif., during World War II. After his military service, Scott graduated from WVU and the Univ. of Maryland School of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Huntington for over 49 years, was a Fellow in the American Dental Association, and was one of the leading dentists in the state. Scott loved youth and helped five different boys build Soap Box Derby cars, three of them winning the local race and one going on to win third place in the world competition at Akron, Ohio. Scott was an expert in the sport of fencing and competed successfully on a national basis. Scott also loved the game of golf and he served for many years as the director of the W.Va. Golf Association. Scott and Pat retired to Keowee Key, S.C., where they lived for 15 years before returning to Huntington, where they have been residents of The Woodlands Retirement Community. While in South Carolina, Scott dusted off his trumpet from his high school days and enjoyed playing in several jazz bands as well as the CK Alumni Band here in Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Chip Graves at Trinity Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. The family will hold visitation one hour before the service in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Scott 's name to either Hospice of Huntington or Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001. Klingel Carpenter Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.
