Vera Elaine Smith
(January 24, 1927 - August 6, 2014)



Vera Elaine Smith, 87 of Huntington, WV went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Steve Willis. Burialwill follow in Mays Cemetery, Lavalette, WV. Vera was born January 24, 1927 in Big Rapids, MI, a daughter of the late Harry and Mary Ann Foos Stephenson. She was a retired secretary in the maintenance department at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was a firm believer in Jesus Christ, a member of First Baptist Church of Kenova and a volunteer for Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Ronnie Lee Lucas and Jackie Roger Lucas and one sister, Laurie Fluharty. She is survived by one son, Larry Lucas and daughter-in-law Leslie of Huntington, four daughters, Cheryl Voorhis of TN, Patricia Hardesty and son-in-law Phil of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Bonnie Brearden and son-in-law Dale of OK and Brenda Sweeney and son-in-law Michael of Huntington. Fourteen grandchildren survive as well, Adam, Kimberly, Tracie, Jimmy, Donnie, Joey, Joshua, April, Kristen, Justin, Amanda, Jason, Brandon, Kyla; seventeen great-grandchildren: Kaitlin, Avery, Cheyenne, Ciara, Dakota, Jacob, Ashley, Savanna, Jesse, Hunter, Jack, Derrick, Kenyon, Kaelin, Jenna, Sydney, Brady and two great-great granddaughters: Cara and Emma Turner. Visitation will be from noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Reger Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington or the Cabell –Wayne Animal Shelter.
