Obituary

Carolyn Sue Sexton Wellman, 71, of Huntington, WV, died unexpectedly October 17th, 2015. She was born January 03, 1944 in Branchland, WV. Sue was preceded in death by her son, Lewey Lee Wellman, her father, Wade Winfield Sexton, an uncle, Marion Fountain Vance and her Step-Mother, Marjorie Sexton. She is survived by her mother, June Vance Sexton (Huntington, WV), her sister Joanna Sexton-Figlia and her husband Peter (New York, NY and Huntington, WV), a very special aunt Joanne Vance Pirkle (Atlanta, GA) and cousins, William Pirkle (Boca Raton, FL), James Robert Pirkle (Newman, GA), Brenda Perry (Huntington, WV) and Ron Vance (New Jersey). Sue graduated from Huntington East High School in 1963. She was selected to be part of the Lads and Lassies singing group, Acappella Choir and All State Chorus. After graduating, she started her working life with Delta Air Lines in Atlanta, then Reuben H. Donnelly in Huntington followed by working the switchboard ATT/CP. Later, she worked for The Veterans Administration for many years in California, Ohio and North Carolina before returning to Huntington to retire. Sue owned and managed a used book store at the Chesapeake flea market called ‘Book Ends’ and was known affectionately throughout the Tri-State area as ‘The Book Lady’. Sue loved books, she loved to sing, and she loved to dance but she loved nothing more on this earth than being Lewey’s mother. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 1:00 PM at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. Friends may call from 11 am until service time on Tuesday.
