Obituary


“AL” ALBERT WILLIAM GHIZ, 77, of Huntington, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Graveside rites will be conducted on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery by Pastor Trent Eastman. Al was born in Barboursville, on February 19, 1940 the son of the late Joe W. Ghiz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Jeanette Rose Ghiz Hensley, a brother: Joe M. Ghiz and a grandmother “a saint” who raised him. He was an employee of Evans/Pennyfair Supermarkets for 15 years from carryout to store manager. For 31 years as a retail salesman for food brokers retiring from Greg Bias Retail Associates. Al called on supermarkets in parts of West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. Over the years the supermarket employees became more than just customers, “They were his special friends”. Al is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pauletta Adams Ghiz whom he met on a blind date. One son and daughter in law: John and Lisa Ghiz, three granddaughters: Tara Hensley, Katie Ghiz and Grace Ghiz. Also two great granddaughters: Jayden Jennings and Nivah Green, a sister in law: Jo Ghiz, a brother and sister in law: John “Danny “and Ruth Swanson and a special aunt: Jane Baldwin. Additional survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws, special friends and all of his neighbors. They were more than neighbors they were an extension of his family. Pall bears will be Bill Ghiz, Mark Adams, Terry Adams, John Swanson, Stephen Reed and Will Lockwood. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 20167 at the Reger Funeral Home.
