Obituary
Fred E. Ellis, Jr., 77, of
Pickensville,
Alabama died Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at
Tuscaloosa,
Alabama.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 27 at 2:00 P.M., at Beard
Mortuary,
Huntington,
WV. with Rev. Hubert Harvey
officiating. Burial will follow in
Spring
Hill
Cemetery with full
military rites. The family will receive friends after
12:00 P.M on Sunday. Fred was born March 21, 1930 at
Huntington,
WV, the son of the late Fred E.
Ellis, Sr. and Bonnie B. (Foster) Ellis. He married Elma
V. Federer on April 16, 1949. She preceded him in death
on July 27, 2003. He was also preceded in death by, an infant son, Michael
M. Ellis, a sister, Dorothy Ellis of Huntington, W.V. and a brother, Roger
Ellis of
Hollywood,
Florida. He
is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl V. and Michael Kerns of
Dodge City,
Kansas; and a son, David G. Ellis of
Pickensville,
Alabama. He
is also survived by four grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; a brother
and sister-in-law, John and Judy Ellis of Tyler, Texas; a sister and
brother-in-law, Kathy and William DiGiacomo of Mountain Home, Arkansas; a
sister-in-law, Christina Federer of Huntington and a brother-in-law David
Federer and his wife, Elsa of Norcross, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Fred graduated from
East
High School in
Huntington and joined the United
States Army Air Corps in 1947. He served as a Nuclear
Power Plant Supervisor while in the Air Force from 1961 to 1968 and retired
from the Air Force after 21 years of service. Fred received a Bachelor of
Science in Engineering from
George
Washington
University in
Washington,
D.C. during his tenure with the
Air Force. Fred made his second career as a Nuclear Power Senior Engineer
for Westinghouse Electric from 1968-1990. He and Elma
also owned Pueblo Limousine Service in
Pueblo,
Colorado and Limousine Masters in
Antioch,
Illinois during his latter
years with Westinghouse Electric. He and Elma then
headed the family ownership of Marina Cove in Pickensville, Al. from
1990-2007. He was a Past Master and a 50 year member of
the Millburn Masonic Lodge in Lake Villa, Illinois and a member of the
Scottish Rite in the Valley of Birmingham, Orient of Alabama, as well as
being involved as a Shriner. Fred was involved in the
United States Coast Guard Auxiliary as a Lt. Commander with a posting as
Division Vice Captain, and, he was a member of the American Legion.
Fred was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Aliceville,
Alabama. Flowers are welcome and appreciated however, contributions or
memorials may also be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
