    Carson Nidiffer, 83, of
    Huntington,
    WV, died Monday, January 28, 2008 in St. 
    Mary’s
    
    Medical
    Center. Nelson was born 
    July 13, 1924 son of the late William Shaftner and Virgie Belle Shupe 
    Nidiffer in
    
    Rhoda,
    VA. At 15, Nelson joined the 
    Civilian Conservation Corps and a year later he joined the National Youth 
    Corp. At 19, he joined the U.S. Maritime Service as a Merchant Seaman, to 
    serve his country in World War II. During his service he crossed the English 
    Channel 26 times, made 13 trips to the beachheads, 6 trips to
    Le Harve,
    France and 7 trips up the
    
    Seine
    River. His duty also 
    included tours to Africa,
    Italy,
    Hawaii and
    
    Panama. After leaving 
    the Merchant Marines, Nelson learned to be a typesetter, a trade that would 
    soon become his profession. In 1956, Nelson opened Speedy Offset Service 
    which later became known as Printers Products. He couldn’t think of 
    retirement and worked as a Graphics Sales Representative for Xpedx, an 
    International Paper Company, until his death. Nelson loved airplanes and 
    aviation. He earned a private pilot certificate and enjoyed flying 
    recreationally for many years. Nelson was a fearless free spirit who lived 
    his life to the fullest.  Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Donna 
    Kimberly Nidiffer; daughter, Jill Carson Nidiffer of Atlanta, GA and son 
    Jeffrey Nelson Nidiffer of Myrtle Beach, SC; and, four sisters, Margie Ulla 
    and Inez Dotterweich of Baltimore, MD and Lena Hall and Rosalie Shumate of 
    Bolt, WV. Nelson Carson Nidiffer will be remembered and missed by his family 
    and many, many friends. Visitation and Memorial Services will be conducted 
    Saturday, February 2nd at Beard Mortuary in
    
    Huntington. Visitation will 
    begin at 11:00am and the Memorial Service will begin at 1:00pm.

    may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Huntington and the Coalition for 
    the Homeless.
