Obituary

Nellie Anne Thackston, 88 of Huntington, WV passed away on Friday December 11, 2009 at Emogene Dolin Hospice House. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Dec. 15, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Beard Mortuary with Rev. Amy Sutherlun officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park. She was born November 20, 1921 in Idaho a daughter of the late John and Nellie Whitney Kessler. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Marion Newsom, Phyllis Johnson and Laura Rodell; a grandson, Frank McIntosh Vass, Jr. and her former husband, Marion E. Thackson, Jr. She was a graduate of Huntington High School and Marshall University. She was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and taught Bible School, she was also a former member of the Huntington Woman’s Club. She was retired with over 30 years of service with the Cabell County Board of Education having taught music at West Junior High and Guyandotte Elementary School. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend and will be sadly missed by her family. She is survived by a daughter, Laura Kessler Thackston of Huntington; a son and daughter-in-law, Pete and Tammy Thackston of Proctorville, OH; six grandchildren, Laura Heath Vass of Huntington; Joseph McIntosh Vass of Lexington, KY; Peter Allan Thackston, Tyler Anthony Thackston, Alexander Nicholas Thackston and Josie Anne Thackston all of Proctorville. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House for their excellent care.
