Virginia E. Adkins Osburn
(July 28, 1927 ~ February 22, 2017)
Virginia E. Adkins Osburn, 89, widow
of Scott Osburn, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Emogene Dolin
Jones Hospice House. Her journey ended after a lengthy battle with
Parkinson’s disease, with loving support from family, friends and
caregivers. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at
2:00 P.M. at Beard Mortuary with nephews Rev. Dale Adkins and Rev. Greg
Adkins, officiating. Burial to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in
Barboursville. Virginia was born in Wayne County, WV, on July 28, 1927, the
second of four children to Gallie and Myrtle Smith Adkins. In addition to
her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years,
Scott Osburn; brother, Norman E. Adkins and brother-in-law, Paul Don Niday.
Survivors include her son, Keith Osburn and his wife, Nicki, of Huntington;
grandsons, Jason (Kathy) Osburn of Proctorville, OH and Wes Osburn of
Huntington; sister, Thelma Niday of Barboursville; brother, Donald (Dorothy)
Adkins of Wayne, WV; sister-in-law, Dorothy Mae Adkins of Piqua, OH, and
nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. Virginia graduated from
Wayne High School in 1945. She was employed at Sylvania until its closing.
After completing secretarial courses at Century College, she was employed at
Guaranty National Bank until retirement in 1990. Scott and Virginia enjoyed
bus trips, gardening, golfing and spending time with family and friends.
Sunday dinners, family reunions and holidays were always special events. For
years they attended First Baptist Church of Proctorville and were baptized
in the fall of 2010 by Rev. Jeff Black. The family would like to express
their gratitude to Dr. Cynthia Pinson, Dr. Carl McComas and the staff and
friends at Wyngate Assisted Living of Barboursville. A special thank you to
our friend Cathy McComas, whose care and devotion comforted Virginia through
difficult times. Visits from family and friends would brighten her day. In
lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Baptist Church of
Proctorville, 627 County Road 411, Proctorville, OH 45669 or Hospice of
Huntington, P.O. Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709. The family will receive
friends at noon on Saturday at Beard Mortuary, Huntington.
