Ellen Carey Grimes
(December 2, 1912 ~ March 26, 2017)



Ellen Carey Grimes, 104, of Woodway, Texas, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017 in Waco, Texas. Ellen was born December 2, 1912 in Palestine, Texas, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Carey.  She was married to her beloved husband, Leonard K. Grimes, for 60 years before he preceded her in death in 1997. Ellen is survived by one daughter, Ellen (William) Strohmeyer of St. Louis, MO;  and three sons: James (Dana) Grimes of Waco, TX; Dr. Thomas Grimes of Woodway, TX; with whom she her home; and Dr. William (Janet) Grimes of Huntington, W.Va. Also surviving her are six grandchildren, Michael (Beth) Strohmeyer, David Strohmeyer, Andrew Grimes, William (Anne-Lise) Grimes, Jeffrey (Rebecca) Grimes, Carey (Jason) Roland; and two step-grandchildren: Kristen (David) Rutherford and Jason (Mary Beth) Clark. Eleven great-grandchildren survive Ellen: Kyle, Coby, Katy, Alex, Benjamin, Caroline, Spencer, Shelly, Brooke, Ava, and Emma, and several nieces and nephews. Ellen’s keen mind, sharp wit, and Irish humor remained with her until the very end. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, at Beard Mortuary followed by services at Ridgelawn Memorial Park Abbey of Devotion, officiated by Reverend Kevin L. Mackey. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Little Victories Animal Rescue or Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Control.
