"Debbie" Avis McClure
(June 22, 1949 - November 14, 2009)
Through God's amazing grace, Deborah "Debbie" Avis McClure,
60 of New Smyrna Beach, FL went home to be with our Lord on Saturday
November 14, 2009. Debbie, a daughter of Harry B. and Jane Ann Atkinson of
Beckley, WV, blessed this earth with her arrival on June 22, 1949, in
Beckley, WV. A graduate of Marshall University School of Nursing, Class of
1971, her nursing career of 35 years was guided by a strong moral and
ethical compass. She cared for her patients and co-workers with a kind and
compassionate heart.
Debbie's joys in life were spending time with her family, riding her Harley,
interior design, playing her piano, and the celebration of Christmas. She
had a strong faith in God and loved the Lord.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she is survived by
her husband of 39 years David "Butch" McClure, daughters Angela Gentry of
Nashville, TN; Amanda Lynn and Carrie Carney of New Smyrna Beach, FL;
sons-in-law Troy Gentry of Nashville, TN; JC Lynn and Mark Carney of New
Smyrna Beach, FL; grandchildren Kaylee Gentry, Savannah and Ethan Lynn;
sister Karen Eller of Beckley, WV; brothers Barney Atkinson of Anderson, SC
and Bill Atkinson of Beckley, WV; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, David
and Mary McClure of Huntington, WV.
Her family and friends will deeply miss her and will eternally cherish the
short time that God allowed her to bless our lives on this earth.
Her family would like express their sincerest gratitude to the numerous
friends and family members who continued to fervently pray for Debbie
throughout her battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Thursday November 19, 2009 at
Chapman's Mortuary 2851-Third Avenue, Huntington WV, with Pastor Brady K.
Lipscomb officiating; a graveside service will immediately follow at the
Gill Cemetery in Salt Rock, WV. Friends are welcome to call from 10:30 AM to
12:30 PM on Thursday November 19, 2009.
