John Bruce Carter II
(September 12, 1970 - October 14, 2009)
Major John Bruce Carter II, 39, of Huntington, WV,
passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009, in Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 PM Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at
Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Jeffrey W. Arthur and Pastor
George F. Surgeon officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial
Gardens, Barboursville. Military graveside rites will be conducted by U.S.
Army Honor Guard from Ft. Knox. He was born September 12, 1970 in Huntington
a son of John Bruce Carter of Lesage, WV and the late Edna Jane Blake
Carter. Also preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Ben T.
and Mae E. Blake; paternal grandparents, Corbett and Josie Irene Carter;
several aunts and uncles; and two step daughters, Autumn and Brianna Groose.
He was active duty U.S. Army Major with the 400th Military Police Battalion.
He had a tour of duty in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. He was a member of
Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church; was a Kentucky Colonel; graduated
from Marshall University with a Masters degree in Criminal Justice; was a
Private Investigator; and was an avid Marshall fan. Survivors include: his
wife, Tonya A. Carter; a son, John B. "Trey" Carter III; father and step
mother, Bruce and Diana Carter of Lesage, WV; mother-in-law and
father-in-law, Ruth Woods and Clarence Woods of Severn, MD; step
grandparents, Gilbert and Jean Smith of Milton, WV; step sister, Amber
(Larry) Henry of Huntington; step brother, Jeremy (Tracie) Smith of
Florence, SC; five sisters-in-law and their husbands; two brothers-in-law
and their wives; special dog, Cashlyan; and several aunts and uncles,
including a special aunt, Nancy Woodall. Flowers are appreciated or
donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington or Marshall University Alumni
Association. Friends may call from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday, October 13,
2009, at Chapman's Mortuary.
