Rev.
Everett Black Jr.
(November 2, 1927 - October 21, 2010)
Rev. Everett Black, Jr., 82, formerly
of Huntington, WV, died Thursday, October 21, 2010 in Baptist Hospital
Northeast in LaGrange, KY. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm
Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Frank
Edmonds, and Rev. Herbert Nida officiating. The Faith Gospel Mission Singers
will provide music. Burial will follow in Bias Chapel Cemetery, Milton, WV,
with members of the West Virginia State Police serving as pallbearers. Rev.
Black was born November 2, 1927, at his home on Dry Ridge Road in Milton,
WV, a son of the late Martin Everett and Della Edmunds Black. His wife, whom
he married on August 20, 1964, Billie Katherin Black; Six brothers, Walter
Black, James Black, Amos Black, Turman Black, Mervin Black and Charles
Black; six sisters, Addie Morris, Melsie Edmunds, Rosie Edmunds, Oma Black,
Stella Black and Dolly Black also preceded him in death, as well as a long
list of other family members and friends. He retired from the former H.K.
Porter/Conners Steel Company (Steel of WV) in Huntington, WV, where he
worked for more than 43 years. After his retirement, Rev. Black ran his own
small engine and lawnmower repair and sales business for over 9 years. Rev.
Black was ordained as a Baptist minister through the United Baptist Churches
in September of 1959. The Rev. Earl Fry at the Rock of Ages Baptist Church
in Huntington, WV, of which he was a member, ordained him. Thereafter, and
up to the time of his death, he was a member of the Cremeans Chapel Baptist
Church, Lesage, WV. He was the former pastor of the Beech Grove Methodist
Church, Cremeans Chapel Baptist Church, Potts Chapel Community Church,
Community Holiness Chapel, and Mount Carmel Baptist Church. He was the
former assistant pastor of Staten Chapel Church, Mount Union Baptist Church,
Millstone Church and Barton Chapel Church. Throughout his years of ministry,
he also did evangelistic work at many other churches throughout WV and the
Tri-State area. Survivors include; one sister, Lorene "Rene" Goodman of
Huntington, WV; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Charles "Chod"
Humphreys of New Haven, WV; one son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Rebecca
Black of Crestwood, KY, with whom he made his home for the last four years
of his life; an adopted son and his wife, Jack Allan and Daneta Martin of
Crystal River, FL; eight grandchildren, Tammy and Desmond Falla of Miami,
FL; Sarah Black, Katherin Black and Isabella Black all of Crestwood, KY;
Jackie Martin, Ashley Martin and Kristina Martin all of Crystal River, FL;
and James Allan Martin of Huntington, WV; three great-granddaughters,
Madison Falla, MacKenzie Falla and Morgan Falla all of Miami FL; and a long
list of other family members and friends. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00
pm Monday, October 25, 2010, at the funeral home.
