Allen
Watson
(February 1, 1919 - October 6, 2010)
God called his name and our beloved dad, grandfather,
husband and best friend made the journey into the presence of God to live
forever in the Father's house. ALLEN WATSON, 91, of
Huntington, WV, went to be with the Lord on October 6, 2010 at the Emogene
Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV. He was born February 1, 1919, a
son of the late Allen Watson and Helen Cordela Skeens Watson. He was also
preceded in death by four brothers, Russell Watson, Forrest Watson, Lawrence
Watson and Jerome Watson; and four sisters, Faye Maze, Doris Cartmill,
Rosalee Nickels and Ida Mae Watson. He was a longtime member of Highlawn
Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served as a deacon. Allen was a
veteran of the U.S. Navy Air Corp, having served during World War II on the
aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. He attended Marshall University and was
employed by Houdaille Industries. Survivors include his wife of 68 years,
Mary Catherine Watson; daughters, Brenda Comer and Kathy (Karl) Gillette,
all of Huntington; grandchildren, Todd Gillette, Emily (Jesse) Thacker and
Brian Comer, all of Huntington, and Brad (Lizz) Comer of Columbus, OH; and
three great grandchildren, Zachary Gillette and Katie Beth Thacker, both of
Huntington and Alexis Church of Ashland, KY. The family would like to say a
special thanks to his Hospice caregivers, Yanet, Vicki, and Margie. Funeral
services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, October 9, 2010, at Chapman's
Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Jim Franklin officiating. Friends may call
one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Entombment will follow at
Woodmere Memorial Park, Abbey of Remembrance. Pallbearers will be grandsons,
Brad Comer, Brian Comer, and Todd Gillette; nephews, Burrus "Butch" Johnson
and David Triplett; and longtime friend, Ray Keeling. VFW Post 9738 will
conduct Military Graveside Rites. Donations may be made in his memory to the
Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Road, Huntington, WV 25702.
