Obituary
Thurmon H. Slone, 74, of Huntington, WV, went to be with the Lord Saturday, September 2, 2017. He was born January 4, 1943 in Trinidad Port of Spain a son of Hassel and Pamela Watkins Slone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dwain Slone. He was a truck driver for Black Diamond and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was saved and baptized at Christ Temple Church. Thurmon was a hardworking man and enjoyed many activities after he retired. Thurmon loved participating in car shows and going to races with his son and family. He also enjoyed working in the yard and going to church. Thurmon was a good husband to his wife of 53 years, Meda Kay Messenger Slone. He was a good father and loved spending time with his son, James Slone and his daughter-in-law, Barbette Slone. Thurmon had two wonderful grandchildren, Samantha and Christopher. He was also blessed with two great grandchildren, Meela and Donovan James. He also enjoyed time with his special brother-in-law, Joe Messenger. Also surviving are three sisters, Rosemary (Glen) Graham of Georgia, Sherry (Gil) Smith of Huntington, and Debrah Kay Jurawan of Trinidad Port of Spain; a brother, Robert (Jackie) Slone of Barboursville, WV; and several nieces and nephews. He loved his dogs, Peppie and Boots. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Brother Jeremy Harless officiating. The singer, Kristy Harless, will be accompanied by pianist, Amy Harless. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, with Veterans Honor Guard Post 16 conducting military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be James Slone, Richard Dean, Ronnie Dean, Mike Armstrong, Christopher Slone, and Jesse Gahm. Following the burial, there will be food and refreshments served in the Fellowship Hall at Highlawn Full Gospel Church, 2485-4th. Avenue, Huntington. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington.
