Leota Hughes


Leota Hughes, 73, of Wurtland, KY, died Monday March 2, 2020 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, KY. Leota was born April 8, 1946 in Goody, KY, a daughter of the late Lester and Zella Maynard Hughes. She was also preceded in death by, one sister, Delcie Booten and three brothers, Leo Denny "Buster", Richard and Ronald Hughes, an infant niece, Karen Michelle Loudermelt and two nephews, Richard Hughes, Jr. and Stevie Hughes. She was Freewill Baptist by faith. She graduated from Belfry High School in 1964. She was employed at GC Murphy Co, then moved to Santa Ana Calif. where she worked for K-Mart and Plas Ties as a bookkeeper. She moved back to Huntington, WV and was employed by St Mary's Hospital then moved back to Williamson to care for her ailing mother. She then was employed by M and M Toyota and later moved to Huntington where she was employed by Bill Spurlock Dodge until her retirement. Leota loved making candy for everyone and loved her nieces and nephews like they were her own, but most of all she loved the Lord. Survivors include three sisters, Patricia (John) Elkins of Hatfield, KY, Doris (Phillip) Elkins of Huddy, KY, and Vivian (Jack) Loudermelt of Ashland, KY, sister-in-law, Norma Hughes of Turkey Creek, KY and her niece and caregiver, Nikki Eldridge. There will be a memorial service at a later date. Chapman's Mortuary Huntington is assisting the family.
