Obituary
He was born on December 1, 1942, at St. Mary's Hospital in
Huntington, West Virginia. He was four years, one month and three days older
than me. He was my only sibling.
Donald (Don) Thompson Carnohan died on May 7, 2020, at
the Heritage Center in Huntington. He was 77. Other than living in
Charleston, West Virginia, for 10 years, Don was a lifelong resident of
Huntington. He attended Miller Elementary, Cammack Junior High and graduated
from Huntington High School in 1960.
At HHS, Don was the starting center for the Pony Express football team his
junior and senior years, making honorable mention all-state his senior year.
He also was the president of the Hi-Y Club his senior year at HHS.
Don attended Marshall University for two years. He marched with the Marshall
ROTC unit in the inauguration parade for President John F. Kennedy in
January 1961, in Washington, DC. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Don was
a former president of the Huntington Elks Lodge 313, and he was an active
member of the American Legion Huntington Post 16.
Don was a lifelong member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. He
was married twice (Roberta Casino Carnohan and Emelie Ruffier Carnohan) and
had two daughters - Jennifer and Julie - by his first wife.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Donald Judson Carnohan and Frances
Rose Thompson Carnohan. He is survived by his brother Thomas Page Carnohan
(Sharon) of Indialantic, Florida; his niece Chelsea Rose Carnohan Cushing
(Jeremy-deceased) of Bonifay, Florida; his grandnephew Gabriel Allen
Cushing, and his grandniece Caroline Rose Cushing.
Don was a good man with a kind heart and an engaging personality. He was
blessed with many, many friends. He will be missed.
