Judy Ann Giunta
(May 29, 1941 - August 10, 2009)



Judy Ann Giunta, 68, of Tampa, FL passed away Aug. 10, 2009. Born in Beckley, West Virginia, she grew up in Huntington, and moved to Tampa in 1959. She attended the University of Tampa, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and was voted the Theta Chi Sweetheart. Judy was a devoted mother and was active in many of her children’s school activities. She had numerous creative talents including decorative painting, needlepoint, refinishing furniture, and a special talent and love of cultivating her roses which brought happiness to many people. One of her great joys in life was owning and managing Judys’ Hallmark Card Shop on Westshore Blvd. She was much loved by her many customers and made many lasting friendships. Judy then worked at Burdines in the ladies’ handbag department for six years, and became affectionately known as “the purse lady”. Judy was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Walter H. Dearing, mother, Mary G. Dearing, and step-mother, Marguerite Dearing Bowman. Survivors include her daughter, Laurie Lackman and husband Peter, her son, David Giunta, and their father Sam Giunta, a brother, Jim Dearing and wife Ellen, grandchildren, Trent Lackman and Caroline Lackman. Other survivors include her loving sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, August 15th in Tampa. Graveside services will be 11:00 am Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Memorial contributions may be made to LifePath Hospice. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Bayshore Point Nursing and Rehab for their dedicated and compassionate care. Also a special thanks to her loving caregiver and friend Angie Lee, and the dedicated care of LifePath Hospice, especially her nurse Peg. Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington is in charge of local arrangements.
