Bishop Sidney Auguster Bass
(February 26, 1924 - June 19, 2009)



Bishop Sidney Auguster Bass, 85, of Huntington passed away Friday, June 19, 2009 at his home. He was born February 26, 1924 in Mount Hope, WV to the late Bishop Sidney C. Bass and Sally Mae Bass. He graduated with honors from Dubois High School in Mt. Hope, WV. He was a veteran of World War II from 1945 to 1947. He was retired from C&O Railroad. He was saved at an early age under pastorate of Mother Bertha Price. He married the love of his life Teacher Mary Lindsay Bass on October 10, 1965, which preceded him in death, from this union were born two children, and preceded him as well Syd Scherice Bass and Michael Auguster Bass; two Brothers Dorsey Bass Sr. and Thomas Bass; and four sisters, Alice Tyler, Frances Jones, Bertha Nowlin, and Margaret Jackson. He was the former Pastor of The Glorious Church of God in Christ in South Charleston, WV for 30 years. He leaves to cherish his memories his step-mother, Margaret Louise Bass, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday, June 26, 2009 at The Original Glorious Church of God in Christ, 1516 10th Ave., Huntington WV, with Elder Gary Brydie and Bishop John Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Huntington. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. The care and service of Bishop Bass are under the direction of Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington.
