Obituary

Samuel Nathaniel Hopkins
(March 4, 1928 - October 3, 2014)



Samuel Nathaniel "Hoppie" Hopkins departed this life on October 3,02014. He was born in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia to the late Edith Wilson Hall who preceded him in death. Also preceded in death was his his loving wife of 59 years, Marilyn Jane McGhee Hopkins. Samuel gave his life over to Christ at a young age of 10 years old in 1937 under Reverend Freeman Johnson and was baptized by Reverend L. R. Walker at Calvary Baptist Church. After graduating from Douglas High School in 1948, he worked at Caster Candy Company (Bailey's Cafeteria) a laborer at C & O Freight House, Maitre'De at Prichard Hotel, St. Mary's Hospital as a utility worker and his final job was Standard Alter Marine (BASF) for 40 years. Nathaniel is survived by his daughter Sheila K. "John" Rogers of Manassas, VA and Don Nathan Hopkins of Columbus, Ohio; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Nathaniel was a member of Alexander Freeman lodge #2 F & AM, Abdul Temple #133 AEAONMS of which he was a Past Potentate. High priest of the Royal Arch Masons and a member of the Knights Templar. A Celebration of his life will be 12:00 Noon Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the sixteenth Street Baptist Church, with the Reverend Roy E. Terry, officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends may call One Hour prior to the service at the church.
