Lawrence L. Peters
Sgt. Lawrence L. Peters 93 of Huntington, passed Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at his residence. Lawrence was born October 14, 1921 a son of the late Thomas and Georginia Peters. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Howard and Robert Peters, one sister Elva peters, two nephews Howard, Jr and Michael Peters, one great nephew Michael Sam Peters and one great niece Diane Peters. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church where he served faithfully until his health would not permit. For many years he was an agent for the Supreme Life Insurance Company. He retired from the Cabell County Sherriff’s Department as a Detective. Lawrence was a community oriented person, he always found time to serve the community. He was a Boy Scout Leader and served on many boards. The Governor’s Committee on Crime & Delinquency, The Draft Board. The City of Huntington Housing, The Human Rights Commission, and the Park Board Commission. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 47 years Vivian Kay Peters , two sons, Lawrence Y. Peters of Huntington and Melvin T. (Sharon) Peters of Bellville, MI, one daughter Vanessa Peters (Hubert Ferguson, fiancé) of Huntington. Three grandchildren Troy (Anjanette) Peters of Chicago, IL, Haile Peters of New York City and Shani Vanessa Peters of New York City. And a host of other relatives and friends. The Celebration of his life will be 1:00PM Friday at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church with Pastor Roy E. Terry, Officiating. Entombment will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
