PATTI MARIE SCHELLING
(April 1, 1952 - January 7, 2010)



The soul of Patti Marie Schelling, 57 left this world in the arms of Jesus as He carried her across the river and into heaven January 7th, 2010. Even though she is at peace rejoicing with our Heavenly Father, her family mourns this temporary estrangement. Patti was born in Anchorage, Alaska, on April 1, 1952 to Charles Porch of Woodbridge, VA. and the late Grace Dixon Porch and departed this life at her home in Milton, WV. She was a devout wife, mother, and grandmother. Patti was a pioneer in the home schooling movement, and began home schooling her children in 1983. She was the co-founder of two home school support groups, one in Northern Virginia and the other in Huntington, WV. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, being a direct descendant of Colonel Frederick Hambright, a leader and hero of the Battle of King's Mountain. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, being the great-great-granddaughter of William Porch of the 32nd North Carolina Infantry Company. She was a faithful member of the Providence Reformed Presbyterian Church, Barboursville, WV for almost 20 years, serving as church secretary for much of that time. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Ron Schelling, her children Matt (Danealle) Schelling of Pensacola, Fla., Ben (Jennifer) Schelling of Huntington, WV, Cathy (Derik) Taylor of Ironton, Ohio, Stephen Schelling of Huntington, WV,  Anna Schelling at home; Eleven grandchildren, Todd, Samuel, Emma, Micah; Benjamin, Tyler, Bradley, Madelynn; Abbey, Jones and Cole. Two brothers, Charlie (Anne) Porch, Greg (Beth) Porch of Woodbridge, VA. Burial services will be conducted on Monday January 11, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Forest Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Milton, WV. Memorial services will be conducted on Monday at 3:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Huntington, with Pastor Greg Cook officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 10, 2010, from 6:00-9:00 P.M. at Henson Mortuary, Barboursville. Donations may be made in Patti’s name to Global Outreach Children's Clinic c/o Providence Reformed Presbyterian Church, 5865- Davis Creek Road, Barboursville, W.Va. 25504.
