AMON CHILDERS
(March 27, 1930 - February 27, 2011)



Amon Childers, 80 of Barboursville, W.Va. passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington.  Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon  on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, W.Va. with Rev. Andrew Magnusson officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va.  He was born March 27, 1930 in Emma, KY, the son of the late Foster and Lula Branham Childers. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Anita Childers in 1976 and one brother, Leon Childers. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Peachie Goble Childers of Barboursville, W.Va; one son,  Greg Childers and wife, Debbie of Barboursville, W.Va.; one daughter, Renee Johnson and husband, Jeff of Ona, W.Va; four granddaughters, Kristi Bowen, Brittani McComas, Kayla Childers, and Ashley Johnson; three great-granddaughters, Makenna and Jaycee Bowen and Addlee McComas and one great-grandson, Landyn Bowen; one brother, Wendell Childers and wife, Patty of Barboursville, W.Va. and one sister-in-law, Hazel Childers of Altus, OK. He was a member of Baptist Temple Church in Huntington, W.Va.  and was a member of the Masonic Zebulon Lodge F&AM in Prestonsburg, KY. He was also past president of the Barboursville Lions Club, very active with the Barboursville Little League for the past 35 years serving in the capacity of coach, on the board of directors and president. He retired from Green Acres in 1996 after 24 years of service and was employed 18 years with Moses Automotive Group, Huntington, W.Va.  and eleven years at Valley Motors in Prestonsburg, KY. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, W.Va and from 10:00 a.m until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Temple Church and Hospice of Huntington. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for the excellent care given during Amon’s illness. Members of the Barboursville Lions Club serving as pallbearers are Roger Hesson, Charlie Buzzard, Orman Hall, Lennie Rowe, Gerald Sturgeon and Richard Hale.
