Obituary

CATHERINE E. CHILDERS
(June 16, 1913 - March 28, 2015)



On March 28th Catherine E. Wells Childers entered heaven and walked into God's loving arms. She was 101 years of age of Huntington, W.Va. She was born June 16, 1913 in Huntington, W.Va the daughter of the late, Joseph H. and Lena Brightwell Wells. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene W.” PeeWee” Childers and two sisters, Margaret Lambiotte and Mary Caudill French. She was a lifelong member of the First Church of Christ Scientist having served on the board of directors and taught a Sunday School Class. She was also a lifetime member of the Huntington Woman’s Club, Pea Ridge Garden Club, Cub & Boy Scout Programs, Lions Auxiliary Club, Republican Party Woman’s Auxiliary and a Huntington City Mission Board Member. Catherine was a huge Marshall University Football Fan. Each year she attended at least one M Club Letterman’s Tailgate party prior to a home game. She became a Marshall fan when her husband to be was playing basketball in college in 1931. They married forty-nine years before his death. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Terrence E. and Janice Ollinger Childers of Chillicothe, OH; grandchildren, Jana Cutler (Curtis) of Westerville, OH, Andrea Elliott (William) of Chillicothe, OH, Paige Landig (Fred) of Westerville, OH and Melinda Doane (Dennis) of Columbus, OH; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan and Carson Cutler, Adam Long, Liza Elliott, Matthew and Rebecca Landig and Emily Doane; great-great-grandchildren, Hunter and Cheyenne Long; nieces, Patricia Goheen (Dennis), Karen Gibson (Raymond) Ann Darby (Mike); nephews, Robert Blair (Betty), William Caudill (Patty). Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Barboursville, W.Va. with Jean Hosier and John Moorhead officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time on Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington, W.Va. Those serving as pallbearers are, Mike Darby, Bernard McGinnis, James and Tim Goheen, Curtis cutler, Fred Landig; honorary pallbearers, Robert Blair, Bob Lester, Tom McGinnis, Steve Williams, Billy Elliott and her great-grandsons.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Catherine Childers to the Marshall University Big Green Scholarship Foundation Box 1360 Huntington, W.Va. 25715,  Hospice of Huntington, Box 464 Huntington, W.Va 25709 or Huntington City Misssion 624 10th Street Huntington, W.Va. 25701.
