Donald A. Damron passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on October 11, 2017 at the age of 81. He was born on November 21, 1935, in Huntington, West Virginia. Don was an incredible father and grandfather. He was a man of true decency, humility and kindness, and he will be missed greatly. He was predeceased by his father, Paul Henderson Damron, and his mother, Marie Sansom Damron. Surviving Don are his children, Dr. Timothy Damron (and wife Becky Damron), Scott Damron (and his wife Tammy Damron), Mark Damron, and Kristie Nease (and her husband Dr. Robert Nease). He loved his daughters-in-law and son-in-law as his children. He was especially proud of his eleven grandchildren, all of whom he loved and cared for deeply. For last 25 years, much of his life was dedicated to Sarah Damron, Emily Damron, Katie Damron, Ryan Damron, Maddie Nease, Callie Nease, Devin Nease, Andrew Damron, Luke Damron, Ella Nease and Adam Nease. He is also survived by his special friend, Delores Donahoe. Don earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Marshall University in 1958 and a master’s degree in safety in 1982. He retired from Special Metals as a chemist and safety coordinator after 37 years of service. Later, he spent several years as a CASA volunteer for West Virginia Child Protective Services, because he believed that at-risk children deserved our protection and a fair chance at a safe and secure childhood. He also worked several years as a substitute teacher at Huntington St. Joseph High School, where he had the opportunity to teach and mentor the great students at that school. He often spoke of his experiences with the St. Joe kids. Don also loved and will be missed by his church family at Steele Memorial United Methodist Church. Don enjoyed a long career as a middle school and high school basketball referee in Cabell County. He was also an excellent bowler, and he enjoyed many friendships from bowling in senior leagues at Colonial Lanes. He loved to bowl, and he loved to talk about bowling. The family would like to thank those who held him in their thoughts during the past year. We would particularly like to thank his caregivers at CCCSO, who helped him remain in his home for all but his last month, and the good people at the Village of Riverview for their excellent care in his last days.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Huntington, W.Va. with Rev. Kevin Lantz officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until service time on Sunday at the mortuary.
