Obituary

Patricia L. Houck
February 26, 1933 - July 4, 2010

Patricia L. Houck, 77, of Huntington, WV, died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Pat is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Leonard C. Houck. A memorial service for Pat and Len will be held 1p.m. July 24, 2010 at John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana, PA. Pat was born February 26, 1933 in Indiana, PA, a daughter of the late Lynn Sylvester and Emma Jane Pardee Bathurst. There was a time that Pat was a working mom but she was always contented in the conventional roles of wife and mother. Pat was talented in time-honored arts of crocheting and quilting in which she took great pleasure in gifting her completed treasures, in particular baby blankets she lovingly made for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some still strive to measure up to her recipes for chocolate chip cookies, red cake, Thanksgiving stuffing, cinnamon rolls and stuffed green peppers; alas, these will long fire sweet memories. Pat was a warm and welcoming homemaker, a gifted collector, a baker who brought love to every treat she made and a caring and open-hearted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by five children: Rita Wilkins and husband Albert of Joppa, MD; Barry Houck and wife Donna of Tonawanda, NY; Doug Houck and wife Peggy of Chicago, IL; Ted Houck and wife Margaret of Syracuse, NY; Michelle Gould and husband David of Chesterfield, VA; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barb Vetula and husband Andy of Homer City, PA, Cheryl Knopick and husband Bill of Homer City, PA; three brothers-in-law, Jim Fenton of Marion Center, PA; Bill Houck and wife Hope of Meadville, PA; Ron Glasser of Indiana, PA and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by an infant son, Frederick William; a sister, Janice Fenton; a sister-in-law, Peg Glasser; and a brother in-law, Michael Rayko. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to a local Veteran’s Association. Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
