John Charles Baker,
81, of Huntington died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at home. He was born June 18,
1929 in Williamson, W.Va., a son of the late George Bennet and Helen Coiner
Baker. He attended KMI Military School, University of Kentucky and
University of Louisville. A US Army Corporal he served in the Korean War.
John was the retired owner and operator of Baker’s Superette on Davis Creek
Road and Central City Antiques. A member of First Presbyterian Church and a
Kentucky Colonel. In addition to his parents he was preceded by a brother
George B. Baker, Jr and a sister Bert Bray. John is survived by his wife of
57 years, Loretta N. Baker; one son, William Norman Baker and his wife Kay
of Bradenton, FL; one granddaughter, Rebekah, who was his pride and joy;
Mother-in-law, Maxie Norman of Huntington; a sister, Jessie (Mrs. Gene
Clark) of Huntington; two sister-in-laws, Patsy Baker of Frankfort, KY and
Emogene (Mrs. Robert Vipperman) of Huntington; nieces, Helen Blankenship,
Mary Pat Dobbins and Brenda Rucker and nephews, George Bray, Joe Bray,
George Bennett Baker, Ronnie Vipperman and Bill Vipperman. Services will be
held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary by Dr.
Olin Whitener, Jr. Interment will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be George Bennett Baker, Bill Vipperman, Todd Rucker, Shawn
Rucker, Evan Jenkins and Stephen Stacks. Friends may call Wednesday from
4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made
to First Presbyterian Church. John will be greatly missed by those who knew
him.
