Lambros
Aristotle Svingos
(April 22, 1924 - July 7, 2011)
Lambros Aristotle Svingos, 87, of
Barboursville, went to Christ on Thursday July 7 in his home surrounded by
his loving family. He was born April 22, 1924 in Huntington, a son of the
late Aristotle Lambros and Vasiliki Bezu Svingos. He was also preceded by a
sister, the late Despina Jones. Lambros served in the US Navy as gunners
mate first class during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1946. He is a
1991 Inductee of the Huntington Wall of Fame. One of his greatest
accomplishments is making Victor’s Hat Shop and Riggs Dry Cleaners, with 100
years of service, the oldest continuously run family business in the city of
Huntington. He served as chapter President, District Governor and Supreme
Governor of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association. An
active board member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, he served as church
President, past choir director, trustee member and has been instrumental in
numerous church activities. He has also been a big supporter of Marshall
University, and a Big Green member for over 30 years. He was a member of
American Legion Post 16, Veterans of Foreign Wars 1064, Huntington Lions
Club, and United Commercial Travelers. In 1985, he was commissioned a
Kentucky Colonel by Governor Martha Layne Collins. He is survived by his
wife Mary Jonson Svingos; Children, Valerie (Frank) Dickson, Aristotle
(Janet) Svingos, Sotero (Vickie) Svingos, Joanna (Ron) Svingos-Smith,
Nicholas (Mary Beth) Svingos, and the late infant Bessie Svingos; 13
Grandchildren; two sisters, Pola Maniskas and Katena Karnes and numerous
nieces and nephews. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011
at St. George Greek Orthodox Church by Father Mark Elliott. Interment will
follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. The grandsons and godchild will serve as
pallbearers. Friends may call Sunday 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at
Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary where the Trisagion will be at 6:30 p.m.

sustained him throughout his life. He adored his wife and was dedicated to
his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, godchildren and countless
friends.
