Obituary

Mrs. Anne Gold Allen
(August 29, 1922 - March 12, 2011)

ANNE GOLD ALLEN, 88, died at Woodland’s Retirement Community, surrounded by her family, on March 12, 2011. She was born at St Mary’s Hospital on August 29, 1922 and lived her entire life in Huntington. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William D. (Bill) Allen, who died 7 years to the day before her death. Anne graduated from Huntington High School and worked for the telephone company through the WWII years. She was married in 1946 and was a homemaker, before joining the dental staff of Dr. Scott Moore. She was a life-long member of the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church, a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood International, a 15 year volunteer at Cabell Huntington Hospital, and an avid golfer. She also enjoyed Marshall University athletics with her husband, Bill. She became a resident of the Woodland’s in 2006. She told fascinating stories about the war years, and her three brothers, Bill, Mac, and George Gold all served overseas. She loved reading and word puzzles, and drew strength from natural scenery. She leaves behind a daughter and son, Beverly Allen Fink (Tom) of Fairfield, OH and William David Allen, Jr. (Vicki) of Huntington, grandchildren Thomas Michael Fink, Josh William Fink, and Peter Allen Fink of Columbus, Erin Marie Lowe (John) of Denver and Wesley David Allen (Jennifer) of Greenland, NH. She also leaves four great grandchildren, Kyle Jerald Allen (12) and Payton Elizabeth Allen (6), and Hallie Anne Lowe (6) and Graeson Jane Lowe (3). She loved her life at the Woodlands, and greatly valued her relationships with relatives, fellow residents and staff members. Her family is thankful to so many treasured friends, with whom she shared a wonderful life. Her family loves her deeply and will miss her every day. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 by the Rev. Cinda Harkless at the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church with visitation 1 p.m. until service. Private burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park.
