Charles William "Bill"
Dennison, M.D. died on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at The Woodlands.
He was born July 19, 1925, in Huntington, WV, the son of Jess T. and Mary
Stepp Dennison. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years,
Ella Edwards Dennison. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his
brother, Robert Russell Dennison, M.D., and his brother-in-law, Malcolm
Farmer. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1943 and attended
Marshall College before becoming one of the youngest graduates, finishing
second in his class, from The Medical College of Virginia at age 22. He was
a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his
internship at Cincinnati General Hospital, where he met his future wife. He
served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Army in Occupied Japan and later
in a MASH Unit in Pusan, Korea. He completed his residency in Internal
Medicine at McGuire VA Hospital in Richmond, VA. He returned to Huntington
to establish his private practice in Internal Medicine and to raise his
family. He is survived by his cherished sister, Mary Lou Dennison Farmer;
two daughters, Mary Ellen O'Neill (Jim) and Kathryn Wakeling (Philip); one
son, William B. Dennison, M.D. (Jeannie); and six grandchildren, Stephen
(Erin) and Matthew Wakeling, Christopher Russell, Andrew, Emily, and
Catherine Dennison, and one great-grandchild, Elliot Wakeling. He is also
survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. He was a member of First United
Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014
at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the funeral
home. The family will also receive family and friends prior to the service
on Friday.
