Obituary

Carmen Elizabeth Mitchell
(March 23, 1965 - November 12, 2014)

Carmen Elizabeth “Beth” Mitchell, 49, of Huntington, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was born March 23, 1965 in Logan, WV., daughter of the late Catherine Ann Mitchell. She is survived by her two brothers, Jay Mitchell of Los Angeles, CA and Joseph of Charlotte, NC as well as her beloved niece Carmen, her namesake. Additional survivors include her step father Edward Bellomy, step-sister Allyson Darling (Mike), step-brothers Lee Bellomy (Amanda), Greg Bellomy (Louise), and Scott Bellomy (Ani), and Donna Synder.  Beth was a graduate of Marshall University with a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education. Beth was employed by Cabell County Board of Education and spent the majority of her time as a teacher at Guyandotte Elementary School. Prior to teaching, Beth worked at the Autism Services Center in Huntington.  Beth touched so many lives through her volunteer efforts such as tutoring students, her work with the Write to Read Program, and her involvement with the First United Methodist Church, where she attended for over ten years.  She was an avid Marshal University sports fan and lifelong Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan. Her love of sports led her to be the Huntington High School girls cross country coach.  The holidays were Beth’s favorite time of year, as she enjoyed giving gifts and sharing her love of the spirit of the season. In particular, Beth loved spending Christmas with her niece Carmen.  According to all who knew her, Beth was a kind hearted and generous person, always willing to help others by giving of her time and talents. She was the favorite babysitter for many families in the Huntington area and will live on in their happy memories.  There will be a public memorial services scheduled and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or the Autistic Services Center of Huntington.
