Cecil Lyle Ramsey
(August 27, 1928 - November 5, 2014)
Cecil Lyle Ramsey, age 86, of
Huntington, WV passed away peacefully from complications of Parkinson’s
Disease on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was
born August 27, 1928 in Oak Hill, WV, son of the late Cecil Lyle Ramsey, Sr.
and the late Henrietta Shore Ramsey. Lyle is survived by his loving wife of
63 years, Barbara Anspach Ramsey. They were married in Washington, D.C. on
December 15, 1951. Also surviving are his two daughters and their husbands,
Jean and Alan Simmons of Huntington, WV and Mary and Phil Krinkie of
Shoreview, MN; grandchildren Mark (and wife Rebekah) Simmons of Cincinnati,
OH, Elizabeth Simmons of Philadelphia, PA, and Elizabeth Krinkie of
Shoreview, MN; great-grandchildren Eleanor (Elly) and James Simmons of
Cincinnati, OH; brother, David Allen Ramsey of Barboursville, WV; and
special caregiver and friend, Michael Staszewski of Huntington. Lyle
graduated from Huntington High School in 1946 as valedictorian of his class.
He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical
Engineering, was a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering honorary and Pi Kappa
Alpha fraternity. He proudly served in the U. S. Army, entering service at
Aberdeen (MD) Proving Ground in September 1951. Later he served at Redstone
Arsenal in Huntsville, AL and at Ft. Bliss, TX. As a First Lieutenant, he
was involved in the development of the U.S. guided missile program and was a
company commander at Ft. Bliss. Lyle was awarded the National Defense
Service Medal prior to his separation from service in December 1954. He and
Barbara returned to Huntington, where he was employed at Huntington Alloys (INCO)
for 33 years where he held numerous positions in metallurgy, operations, and
process and quality control. After his retirement from INCO, he had several
jobs, first with Region II Planning Commission, then with the Robert C. Byrd
Institute for Flexible Manufacturing, prior to co-founding High Performance
Heat Treating, where he served as the first President before retiring again.
Lyle was an avid runner and fervent supporter of the Huntington YMCA. He was
a Rotarian and a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, where
he and Barbara first met. He served in various leadership positions in the
church and Sunday School classes. He was a kind, loving husband, father, and
grandfather who will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family
suggests consideration of contributions to the Jeff Ohl Scholarship Fund at
Johnson Memorial or to Johnson Memorial Church. Visitation will be Friday
night, November 7, from 6 – 8 pm at Klingel-Carpenter Funeral Home and
funeral services will be conducted by Jack Lipphardt, Senior Pastor, at
10:00 am Saturday, November 8 at Johnson Memorial Church.
