William Thomas Morrison
(January 2, 1921 - July 22, 2015)
William T. Morrison,
94, of Huntington, WV died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at his home. A memorial
service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015 by the Rev. Greg Creasy
at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary. He was born January 2, 1921 in Parkersburg,
WV, a son of the late Harry and Clara Everhart Morrison. He was a graduate
of Parkersburg High School and was the center on the 1938 Big Red WV State
championship football team. He attended WV Weslyan College. Mr. Morrison
retired in 1981 with the C & P Telephone Company of West Virginia with 41
years of service. He was also a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S.
Army Signal Corps and the Joint United States-Brazilian Military Commission,
Natal Brazil. He was a member and past president of the Huntington Lions
Club, American Legion Post 16, B.P.O.E of Elks Lodge 1744 of Melbourne, FL.
He was a McDonald award winner for his participation in the international
sports jamboree at North Bend State Park. Additionally, he was a member of
the Telephone Pioneers of America and the First United Methodist Church of
Huntington. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife,
Dorothy Sue Wolfe Morrison; one sister, Ruth Angela; a brother, James Monroe
Morrison; a sister and brother-in-law, June and Jack Tilson. Survivors
include one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jeanette Morrison of
Smithers, WV; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Kenneth
Paavilainen of Charlton Heights, WV and Melissa Lee and Larry Killingsworth
of Melbourne, FL; a special nephew, Stephen Tilson and his wife, Julia of
Volga, WV; Eight grandchildren, Gina Ware, Patti Corbett, Matt Morrison and
Nikki Wiley, Karey Paavilainen, Brandon, Katie and Emily Killingsworth;
Eight great-grandchildren, Jared Ware, Garrett Ware, Talia Corbett, Olivia
Corbett, Derek Wiley, Marcus Wiley, Sophia Paavilainen and Baby Thomas
Morrison. There will be no visitation prior to the service. In lieu of
flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Lions Club Sight and
Hearing Foundation or Charity of one’s choice.
