Patricia Mitchell Compton Kern
(March 18, 1937 - December 22, 2017)



Patricia Mitchell Compton Kern, 80, of Homosassa, FL went to be with her Savior on December 22, 2017 surrounded by her family in Huntington.  Pat was born on March 18, 1937 in Ashland, KY to the late Lena M. Daniels and Charles Mitchell.  Surviving is her loving husband of 35 years, Richard L. Kern.  A graduate of Ashland High School, Pat attended the University of Kentucky to obtain an associate’s degree in business. She was secretary to the dean and office manager for the Marshall University College of Business. Upon moving to Florida, she was executive secretary for the Bancboston Mortgage Corporation and Florida Medical Association.  Pat was an avid golfer and a member of the Southern Woods Golf Club in Sugarmill Wood, FL. She was a member and served in the Women of Sugarmill Woods and the West Citrus Ladies of Elks #2693, Board member of North Suncoast Republican Club and a member of Crystal River Woman’s Club. Pat had a beautiful voice and sang all her life participating in choirs most recently at the First United Methodist Church of Homosassa of which she was a member.  Pat loved life, friends and family and loved to welcome and entertain guests.  A regular contributor to Florida’s Wildlife Federation, Pat also volunteered for Florida elections and polls and gave her time to the Veterans of her community.  In addition to her parents, preceded in death is a sister, Zelma Hetrick; three brothers, Charles Mitchell, William Mitchell, Glen Mitchell, a daughter -in-law, Paula Compton and a son-in-law, Aristotle Svingos.  Surviving as well as her husband, is a brother, Charles Mitchell Jr., two sons, T. Mitchell Compton, John L. Compton (Sara), a daughter, Janet Svingos; four grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 5:30 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary by Pastor Keith Wiebe and Father Mark Elliott.  A gathering of family and friends will follow the service.  A special “thank you” to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington.
