Evelyn Marie Jefferson
Evelyn Marie Jefferson, 70, of Ona, passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at her home. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Glenwood. She was the daughter of the late Othel and Mary Blake Jefferson. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Mable Mullins; and four brothers, Delbert, Clinton, Andrew, and James Jefferson. She is survived by one brother, Othel Freeman Jefferson of Columbus, OH; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and one special great nephew, Dakotah Lane Jefferson, of South Point, OH. We will miss her.

Lula Mae Allen Johnson
Lula Mae Allen Johnson, 87, of Salt Rock, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 24, 1999 at St Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 27, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Pastor David Cartwright. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born September 20, 1912 in Mingo County, a daughter of the late Noah Benjamin and Odessa Hall Allen. She was a member of Salt Rock United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Norman Johnson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and William Wysong of West Hamlin; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Norman Lee and Dorothy Allen of Columbus, Ohio and Donald Johnson of Salt Rock; four grandchildren, Brady Wysong, Wendell Wysong, Barbara Smith and Donna Graham; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Artie Jo Merritt Jordan
Artie Jo Merritt Jordan, 75, passed away on October 27,1999, at her home in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Funeral services were conducted at Barboursville Baptist Church, Barboursville, by the Rev. Craig Coster. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. The former Artie Jo Merritt was born on March 26,1924, in Barboursville, WV, to Joseph and Artie (Phipps) Merritt. On July 20, 1947, she was united in marriage with John E Jordan in Lawrence County, Ohio. During WWII, Artie was a “Rosie Riveter.” She worked in both an insurance office and in the banking industry. When her husband’s job required extensive travel around the globe, Artie retired to travel with him. Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters, Margaret Cyrus, Cora Emma Fowble, and Marie Allen, and a brother, Hysel Mallory. Survivors include one daughter and her husband.Linda Hoddy and Michael Tripp of Wisconsin Dells, WI; one son and his wife, Barry and Shahnaz Jordan, three sisters, Sara (Elmer) Jacks of WV, Billie Pinson of Ona, WV, Katherine (Hughie) Cyrus of Barboursville, WV; and sixteen grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Ishmael Junior Johnson
Ishmael Junior Johnson, 72, of Rockport, WV, formerly of Milton, died August 30, 1999, at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born February 25, 1927, at Milton, a son of the late Ishmael Otis and Ella Etta Morrison Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Wilma Spencer Johnson; Two daughters, Cassandra Kay Poling and Sarah Etta Arnott; two sons, Hensley Otis Johnson and Olaf Renwick Johnson; five sisters, Frances Vititoe, Hattie Vititoe, Halcy Payton, Opal Ellis, and Clodene Stratton; one brother, Lonnie Clinton Johnson; seven grandchildren, Brian Poling, Michelle Newland, Chasity Keeney, Seth and Nicholas Johnson, and Joshua and Jeremy Arnott; six great grandchildren, Dakota, Autumn, and Christopher Poling, Taylor Newland, Kaylee Keeney, and Kaitlynn Arnott; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Hazel Johnson, and a baby brother.
He was a member of the Rockport United Methodist Church; a member of the Rockport Community Association; and a life time member of the National Rifleman’s Association. He retired from the Columbia Gas Company after 39 years of service. His kind heart, spirit of love, enthusiasm for life and the great outdoors, zeal for hunting and fishing, and his enjoyment of music will be a heritage left to all who knew him. Funeral services were conducted at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg, by the Rev. Robert May. Burial in the Big Tygart Cemetery in the Rockport Section.

Evelyn Louise Jackson
Evelyn Louise Jackson, 73, of Barboursville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by her Pastors Stan Maynard and David Ashworth. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born Feb. 14, 1926 in Huntington, a daughter of the late Henry Franklin and Roma Hall Harden. She was a charter member of the Church in the Valley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Jackson, Jr., one sister, Lois Irene Chapman, and one brother, Oscar Ray Harden. She is survived by a special friend, Bill Burns; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ray Harden; five nephews; 8 great-nieces; 10 great-nephews; 1 Great-great-niece; and 4 Great-great-nephews; and a host of church family and friends.

ROY P. JORDAN
Roy P. Jordan, 75, of Milton, died Friday, July 16, 1999. Survivors include one nephew, James Hunley of Charleston; and one cousin, Robert Jordan of Alliance, Ohio. There was no service. Querry’s Mortuary, Huntington, was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. MAE JOHNSON
Mrs. Mae Johnson, 86, of Milton, WV, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 25, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, following a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 28 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with the Rev. Gordon Knight and Dr. Virgil Courts officiating. Burial followed in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Mae was born in Griffithsville, WV, on July 22, 1912. She was a daughter of the late Franklin S. and Mary T. Stowers Bays. Mae was also preceded in death by her husband, Alphus D. Johnson and two grandsons, Larry Conner and Lonnie Johnson, three sisters and one brother. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, Milton, Milton Senior Citizens, an honorary member of the Milton Women's Club and a homemaker. She is survived by one daughter, Pat Nicholas of Milton: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Franklin and Joyce Johnson of West Olive, Mich., and Danny Johnson of Milton; two grandchildren, Elicia Bias and her husband, David. and Montgomery Johnson and his wife, Lisa; one great-grandson, Kevin A. Conner and wife, Charity and a host of special friends. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Gladys Jenkins
Gladys Jenkins, 54, of Glenwood, WV, went to be with the Lord Monday, April 5, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Lawrence Chapel Church, Left Fork of Barker's Ridge, by George Surgeon and James Jefferson. Burial in Templeton Cemetery. She was born August 13, 1944, in Cabell County, a daughter of Dorothy Jeffers Spurlock of Milton and the late Fred Underwood. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jane Jordan, and one brother, Alonzo Frederick Underwood. She is survived by her husband, Samuel Jenkins; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Peter Stender, Angela and Rodney Roberts, all of Glenwood; two sons, Samuel Jenkins, Jr. and James Jenkins at home; four sisters, Lilly Eplion and Patty Sue Mullins, both of Huntington, Peggy Luther of Milton, and Osa Mae Trippett of Lesage; one brother, Frank Underwood of Milton; and four grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville was in charge of arrangements.
