Obituary

RUSSELL DENVER SOWARDS
(September 20, 1931 - August 12, 2016)

RUSSELL DENVER SOWARDS, 84, of Salt Rock, West Virginia, lost a short battle with cancer on Friday, August 12, 2016. He was born on September 20, 1931, in Lincoln County, W.Va., the son of the late Arthur A. and Alberta Stowers Sowards. Russell retired from the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic and spent his retirement years on his farm at Myra, West Virginia, and working in his small engine repair shop at Salt Rock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joella Phipps Sowards, and sisters, Mary Ellen Weaver and Lily May Johnson. He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Hinderer of Pensacola, Florida, and a son, Steve Sowards of Chesapeake, Ohio. He is also survived by sisters, Irene Johnson of Barboursville, Ethel Pullen of West Hamlin, Louise Lister of Huntington, Elma Humel of Cleveland, Ohio, and Lorene Holley of Layton, Utah, and two special nephews, Gracin (Pat Childers) Johnson and Terry (Jonel) Pullen. Per his request there will be no visitation nor services at this time. Wallace Funeral Home of Barboursville is assisting the family with arrangements.
