EUGENE L. "GENE" GWINN
(January 3, 1932 - March 7. 2016)



EUGENE "GENE" L. GWINN, 84, of Barboursville, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 7, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Steele Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Lantz, Rev. Ralph Sager and Rev. Ed Grant officiating. Entombment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. He was born January 3, 1932, in Reamer, W.Va., a son of the late Joseph Franklin and Mary Edna Blackwell Gwinn. He was a retired civil engineer with US Army Corps of Engineers, a veteran of the US Air Force with the rank of captain, and was a longtime member of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Ora V. "Sue" Gwinn; one son, William Joseph Gwinn; one sister, Ann Pope; and three brothers, Paul, Darrell, and Clyde Gwinn. He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Pat" Jaynes Chapman Gwinn; two daughters, Janet Louise Johnson and her husband Bruce of Proctorville, Ohio, and Nancy Jean Justice and her husband Tom of Union, Ohio; one son, David Ray Gwinn and his wife Amy of Ironton, Ohio; one stepson, Richard (Xenia) Chapman of Virginia; one stepdaughter, Becky (Michael) Kanzer of Pennsylvania; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Inscoe Gwinn of Proctorville, Ohio; three sisters, Betty (Roy Jr.) Abbott of Walton, W.Va., Mary Bird of Sissonville, W.Va., and Donna Sue (Richard) Goldstein of Linwood, N.J.; one brother, Joseph F. (Naomi) Gwinn Jr. of Clendenin, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and two step- great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, and after noon Saturday at the church.
