Obituary

Elizabeth Groves
(August 13, 1948 - June 12, 2018)

Elizabeth “Liz” Katherina (Jobe) Groves, 69, of Huntington, was born on August 13, 1948 in Vienna, Austria and passed away June 12, 2018. Liz was the first born of the late U.S. Army Master Sergeant Delbert Robert Jobe and Anna (Oswald) Jobe. Liz was a true daddy’s girl and her dad was the only person that could ever make her cry, she loved him so much. Liz lived the first three years of her life in Germany, the daughter of a proud Austrian mother. When her father left the service, he brought his new bride and daughter back to his home in Salt Rock, West Virginia. On a blind date at the age of 16, Liz met the love of her life, David Lee Groves. They were married three months later. They remained devoted to each other until the end, married over 52 years. This marriage brought many blessings including two beautiful children, David Lee Groves II and Karen Elizabeth (Groves) Carson. Liz in her youth was always the life of the room and became a devoted member of Pea Ridge Baptist Church in 1970. Liz loved the church nursery the most and would often speak fondly of the many, many friends and families that became part of her life through the church. Liz often would say to her children, “Dave and I did all of that when we were young.” Liz would often talk of the times she loaded the kids up in the car and drove all night to see her beloved sister’s Mary and Lora in Florida or stories of her baby brother, Bobby Jobe, whom Liz and all the sister’s adored. Liz was always proud of her family, proud of the Jobe family name and proud of the many blessings brought from her marriage to David. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert (Bobby) Jobe. She is survived by her loving husband, David Lee Groves; one son and daughter-in-law, David Lee and Susan Groves of Charlotte, NC; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen Elizabeth and Christopher Lee Carson of Huntington; two sisters, Mary Jobe of Huntington and Lora Jobe of Damriscotta, Maine; and five grandchildren, Emma, Grace, Hannah, Beau, and Sophia. Mom, we love you, you will be missed. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Abbey of Devotion. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. immediately following visitation, and will be conducted by Rev. Greg Creasy and Pastor Dan Londeree. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, is in charge of arrangements.
