Raymond Edmon "Ed" Shaffer
(January 31, 1926 - July 9, 2012)



Raymond Edmon “Ed” Shaffer, 86, of Huntington, WV, passed away Monday, July 9, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday at Community of Grace United Methodist Church, Third Avenue and Twenty-Eighth Street, Huntington, with Pastor Steve Hamrick and Rev. Bill DeMoss officiating. Entombment will be in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Ed was born January 31, 1926 in Columbus, OH a son of the late Ray N. and Pearl Whitehair Shaffer. A sister, Julaine Rexroad and two brothers-in-law, Robert Rexroad and Golden Underwood, also preceded him in death. He was a manager for the former Bailey’s Cafeteria and delivered for Spurlock’s Flowers after retiring from Bailey’s. Ed was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Community of Grace United Methodist Church where he was a member of Trinity Sunday School Class and sang in the choir. Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Eleanor Underwood Shaffer; three daughters, Deborah (Danny) Brown of Clendenin, WV, Pam (Mark) Taylor of Huntington and Barbara Thomas of Columbia, MD; three grandchildren, Meghan Taylor, Anna Taylor, and Regan Thomas; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Underwood of Vienna, WV; three nephews, David Rexroad, Steven Rexroad, and David Underwood, all of Parkersburg, WV; and two cousins, Charles Raymond Shaffer of Buckhannon, WV and Bob Shaffer of Oakland, MD. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church. Donations may be made to Community of Grace United Methodist Church, 225 28th. Street, Huntington, WV 25702 or Hospice of Huntington, P.O. Box 464, Huntington, WV 25721. Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, is assisting the family.
