Obituary

Alfred Azel "Curley" Caldwell
(November 12, 1919 - January 23, 2015)



Alfred Azel “Curley” Caldwell, 95, of Huntington, WV, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Gordon Rutherford officiating. Burial will be in Caldwell Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chase Adkins, Matt McCaulla, Rick Caldwell, Shelly Lapelle, Troy Knight and Rick Knight. Honorary pallbearers will be Brayden Burris, Okey Lee Caldwell, Donald Caldwell, Bob Adkins, and Terry Bryan. Curley was born November 12, 1919 in Lesage, WV a son of the late Granville Dudley Caldwell and Lena Mae Wintz Caldwell. Three sisters, Marie Cazad, Edna Vititoe, and Mary Venoy; and four brothers, Ralph Caldwell, Russell Caldwell, Oscar Caldwell, and Okey Caldwell, also preceded him in death. He was retired from INCO and was the caretaker at Caldwell Cemetery for 40 years. He was a member of Mt. Union Missionary Baptist church since he was five years old and was a member of the IOOF. Survivors include: his wife of 74 years, Lucy Frances Knight Caldwell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Du-Wanna and Robert Kapinos of Ona, WV and Linda and Steven Chapman of Gallipolis, OH; three granddaughters, Kelly-Jo (Matt) McCaulla and Shayna Chapman, all of Gallipolis, and Kristy Byrd of Barboursville; seven great grandchildren, Chase, Adam, Kay-Leigh, Gabrielle, Kaetlyn, Brayden, and Aubrey; In-laws, Inez Jobe, Rosemary Knight, and Emogene and Ted Bryan; many nieces and nephews and special caregivers, including Anita Adkins. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 pm Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington.
