Lucy Gertrude Record
(January 12, 1914 - June 14, 2014)



Lucy Gertrude Gouge Record, 100, of Huntington, WV, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. She was born January 12, 1914 in Cranberry, North Carolina. She was the last surviving child of the late William and Sarah Jane Prichard Gouge. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Curtis Record, and four sisters and four brothers. She was a retired sales clerk working at Anderson Newcomb and then Stone and Thomas, was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Huntington and was an avid gardener. She was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy where she was an ultra secret code breaker in the Waves that could be not be revealed for fifty years after the war. She is survived by one daughter, Susan Record of Huntington; one son, John Record of Getaway, Ohio; and four grandchildren including Bethany Hayes of Proctorville, OH. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Skip Seibel officiating. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, in charge of arrangements. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Veterans Administration Home Health Team and a special gratitude and love to Andrea Pauley for her many years of service.
